Preface

This TapTrans Privacy Policy ("Policy") applies to the TapTrans browser extension, translate.jpgall.cn, and related document, PDF, and image translation services ("Services"). Links to third-party sites are not covered by this Policy.

This Policy provides a global privacy framework adapted to applicable laws in different jurisdictions.

Please read this Policy before using the Services. We are committed to protecting your personal information and explaining your rights.

Data controller

The data controller for information collected through TapTrans is the TapTrans operations team. For questions, email support@taptrans.app .

1. Data collection and use

Information you provide:

  • Account information:When you register or sign in, we may collect your email and basic profile from Google or WeChat OpenID for authentication and membership.
  • Document and image translation:When you upload files on the website, we process content to generate translations. We do not persistently store translation content or use it for model training.
  • Payment information:Payments are processed by third-party providers (WeChat Pay, Alipay). We do not store full card numbers or payment passwords.

Information we collect automatically:

  • Translation content:When you translate via selection, hover, full page, or subtitles, text is sent to your chosen engine (TapTrans API, Google, Microsoft, or your configured endpoint).
  • User activity:The extension listens for selection and hover events to trigger translation. We do not log keystrokes or browsing history lists.
  • Local settings and cache:Preferences, glossaries, and API keys are stored in chrome.storage. Translation cache holds up to 1200 entries for 7 days.
  • Usage and error data:We may collect aggregated usage data and error logs to improve the service.
  • Device and access info:Browser type, extension version, and IP address (for security and rate limiting when calling our API).

TapTrans does not integrate Google Analytics or similar third-party analytics SDKs in the extension.

Data retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary:

  • Account data: while your account is active; deleted within a reasonable period after closure.
  • Local extension data: stored in your browser; remove by uninstalling the extension.
  • Translation content: not persistently stored on our servers; local cache expires after 7 days.
  • Server logs: generally no longer than 12 months.
  • Order records: as required by law (up to 7 years where applicable).

After these periods, we delete or anonymize personal information unless law requires retention.

2. Data sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share data when:

  • Translation providers:Text is sent to Google, Microsoft, DeepL, or endpoints you configure to generate translations.
  • Infrastructure providers:Hosting and operational vendors under contract.
  • Payment processors:Information necessary to complete transactions.
